Assam police to recruit 6000 new posts, CM directs to dispose all pending cases by Mar 31

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Assam police will publish an advertisement to recruit 6000 new posts, including five commando battalions, within a week.

“The Assam government has set a target to recruit 1 lakh government jobs by May 10 next year on the mark of first year completion of the current government in the state. Out of 1 lakh jobs in different departments, the Assam government had given the task to the Assam police to recruit 16,000 posts. The Assam police today told me that, they would be able to recruit 12,000-13,000 posts by the given timeline,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

“The Assam government will amend the relevant rule for the recruitment process in next cabinet meeting to be held on November 24 in Bongaigaon. Apart from it, the Assam police will take necessary measures to fill up the vacancies of Sub-Inspector posts in the state,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The Assam Chief Minister on Tuesday took part in a daylong deliberation at Assam Police Headquarter in Guwahati with top officials a step towards transforming Assam police into a smarter police force and he also released a handbook on Cyber Security on the occasion.

“With an aim to strengthen our policing infrastructure, a key to safety and growth of our society, we have decided to take several reformative measures in a review meeting held at Assam police headquarters. During the review meeting, we have decided that, out of the total pending cases in various police stations in the state should be disposed or settlement maximum cases by March 31 next year. There are around 40,000 cases that are still pending alone in Guwahati city and many cases are pending since 1992. Number of settled cases every month should be more than the number of freshly booked ones by Guwahati police A new SOP relating to accident report, passport, post-mortem report will be released soon and passport verification to be completed within 30 days,” the Assam Chief Minister said.
