UP govt gets environmental clearance for 594 km long Ganga expressway, PM to lay foundation next month

Lucknow/UNI: The Member Secretary of State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday issued Environmental Clearance for the construction of 594 km long Ganga Expressway in the state.

A 2006 notification issued by the central Ministry of Environment and Forests requires state authorities to get environmental clearance before the construction of the projects covered in the schedule.

Under this notification, environmental clearance has been obtained by UPEIDA for the construction of the Ganga Expressway.

Officials here on Saturday confirmed the approval received from the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority.

The work of land acquisition for this expressway project is in progress and so far about 94 percent of the land has been purchased/acquired.

The process of tender for Ganga Expressway is already in progress, after completing the tender process, the construction work of the expressway will be started soon.

Prime minister Narendra Modi is likely to lay the foundation of the Ganga Expressway next month.

The total estimated cost of this project is Rs 36230 crores. Tenders have been invited on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) mode on (Toll) mode.

The expressway will be 594 km long, which will start from near Bijauli village of district Meerut on Meerut-Bulandshahr road (NH-334) and end near Judapur Dandu village of Prayagraj district on Prayagraj Bypass (NH-19).

It will pass through 12 districts – Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. This expressway will be 06 lane wide (08 lane expandable).

About 140 rivers/streams/canals/nala, are covered under this expressway project. In addition, 7 ROBs, 17 interchanges, 14 major bridges, 126 minor bridges, 28 flyovers, 50 VUPs, 171 LVUPs, 160 SVUPs, and 946 culverts are proposed to be constructed.

It is estimated that around 12000 persons will be employed temporarily during the construction of this expressway project while around 100 persons will be employed on a permanent basis from the construction of the toll plaza.
