Assam : Police arrest three Assam Rifles jawans and civilian, recover drugs worth Rs 1 crore
Guwahati: Dibrugarh district police arrested three Assam Rifles jawans and a civilian in connection with a drugs trafficking case.
Police also seized drugs worth Rs 1 crore in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Friday.
According to the reports, based on intelligence input, Dibrugarh district police had intercepted a vehicle on National Highway 37 near Jokai in Dibrugarh district.
The vehicle was coming from Dimapur towards Tinsukia and detained four persons including three Assam Rifles jawans who were travelling in the vehicle.
Dibrugarh district Superintendent of Police (SP) Shwetank Mishra said that, during interrogation, they revealed that there was heroin hidden in another vehicle bearing registration number NL-11-2673 and kept at a location at Dergaon in Golaghat district.
“A police team of police swung into action and located the said vehicle and recovered 269 grams of heroin worth Rs 1 crore from the vehicle. Later, we had arrested three Assam Rifles jawans and a civilian. They also revealed that, they had purchased the drugs from a Manipuri woman at Dimapur,” SP Mishra said.
The arrested Assam Rifles jawans were identified as Ranjit Kumar Singha, Binay Kumar, Junush Khan and the civilian was identified as one Pezslhoulie Rupreo.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case (no 2036/21) at Dibrugarh police station under section 22(c)/27/29 of the NDPS Act.
