Lakhimpur Kheri Violence: Karnataka Cong to stage silent protest on Oct 11

Bengaluru/UNI: KPCC President DK Shivakumar Sunday said the party will hold a silent protest on Monday demanding resignation of MoS Ajay Mishra Tikonia for his alleged role in instigating Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

"A car owned by MoS and his family members has brutally murdered farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. The government has taken no action against the MoS and persons who ploughed the car over the protesting farmers. Hence, we are holding a silent protest tomorrow," he said.

The Congress alleged that Mishra had given a provocative speech warning the farmers of dire consequences, which "provoked" BJP workers to mow down protesting farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri.

As many as eight people had died in the violence during the protest in the Tikonia area of the district on Oct 3.

So far, there have been two FIRs filed. The second FIR, that was filed by one Sumit Jaiswal, mentions that a journalist, car driver and BJP workers were lynched by the protesters.

It also mentions some "farmers" had attacked the vehicle by bamboo sticks, bricks and stones due to which the driver received injuries and stopped the car on the road side.

The driver was pulled out of the car and beaten with bamboo sticks and a sword.

The first FIR mentions Ashish Mishra, who was allegedly in one of the cars that knocked down four farmers.
