Kolkata/IBNS: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Kolkata Wednesday predicted rainfall in seven south Bengal districts, including the state capital, during the Bengalis' biggest festival Durga Puja next week.

"Weather is likely to be fair over the districts of south Bengal and chances of rain or thunderstorm are very less between Oct 9 (Chaturthi) and Oct 12 (Saptami)," IMD Kolkata said in a statement.

"Chances of rainfall activity is likely to increase due to strong southeasterly wind over south Bengal from Oct 13 (Astami) till Oct 15 (Vijaya Dashami)," it added.

"Coastal districts of North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Howrah, Hooghly and Kolkata are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, and rest of the south Bengal districts are likely to get light rainfall," the IMD statement read.

The IMD has predicted that weather will be fair over the north Bengal districts and chances of rain or thunderstorm are very less there during the puja days.

The Bengalis' biggest four-day festival, Durga Puja, will be celebrated this year between Oct 12 (Saptami) to Oct 15 (Dashami).
