Chandigarh/IBNS: Merely two days after taking oath as a cabinet minister in the Punjab government, Razia Sultana resigned in "solidarity with Navjot Sidhu" who stepped down as Punjab Congress chief earlier today.

"Sidhu Sahab is a man of principles. He is fighting for Punjab and Punjabiyat," Sultana said, according to an NDTV report.

Later, General Secretary of Punjab Congress Yoginder Dhingra asaid he was also resigning from his post "in solidarity with Navjot Singh Sidhu", news agency ANI reported.

Earlier, state party treasurer Gulzar Inder Chahal had also announced his resignation following Sidhu's exit, it added.

In a tweet announcing his resignation, Sidhu said he would "continue to serve Punjab" and was stepping down as he could not compromise on "Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab".

After Sidhu's resignation, former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh took a swipe at the cricketer-turned-politician, saying "he was not a stable man".

Singh relinquished office on September 18, following a long and bitter feud with the cricketer-turned-politician, during which he found himself abandoned by the Congress high command.

"I told you so, he is not a stable man and not fit for the border state of Punjab," Amarinder Singh tweeted.
