UP Flood Heavy rain in Uttar Pradesh leaves houses collapsed, 5 dead
Lucknow/UNI: At least five people were killed, three in the Sujanpura area of Jaunpur and two in the Ramsanehi ghat area of Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh, as houses collapsed due to strong downpours.
The tremendous rainfall followed by strong wind has disrupted normal life in the eastern and in the Awadh region of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
Various districts of Purvanchal, including Rae Bareli, Gorakhpur and Lucknow, have inundated low lying areas, while power lines were snapped due to the uprooting of trees in several areas.
Traffic on the roads was also less due to water logging in most of the cities. In some places, rail tracks were submerged while underpasses were closed due to water logging.
In Raebareli and Amethi districts, the authorities have closed all the schools up to 8th standard for the next two days due to rain-related uncertainties
The weather office has issued an alert in 30 districts of UP for the next 48 hours of heavy rains.
Alerted districts include Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Mathura, Sitapur, Ayodhya, Moradabad, Shamli, Varanasi, Sambhal, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Amroha, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur and Prayagraj.
According to J P Gupta, Regional Director of the Meteorological Department, the rain which started with strong winds in Lucknow and adjoining districts from the early hours of Thursday is still going on.
He said that till 8:30 am on Thursday, Fursatganj in Rae Bareli recorded the highest rainfall of 186.3 mm; apart from this, Lucknow has recorded 107.2 mm, Sultanpur 118.4 mm, Bansgaon-Gorakhpur 112 mm, Ghanaghata in Sant Kabirnagar district 108 mm and Ayodhya 104.6 mm.
He said that there is a report of rain in most parts of Purvanchal.
Meanwhile, in Lucknow, heavy rains have created water logging around the Vidhan Bhavan and other VVIP localities.
Besides, Park Road MLA complex, Civil Hospital, some ministers' bungalows were also filled with rain water.
Children in the state capital could not go to school due to rain and attendance was low in government offices. Several feet of water has accumulated in the underbelly areas in Lucknow. Many vehicles have been damaged due to the rain.
