Bombay HC dismisses Kangana Ranaut's plea seeking quashing of Javed Akhar's defamation case

Mumbai/IBNS: The Bombay High Court Thursday dismissed Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut's plea seeking quashing of the defamation case against her filed by poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar, media reports said.

The petition "stands dismissed", said High Court judge, Justice Revati Mohite Dere.

Akhtar had filed the defamation case in November last year before the Andheri metropolitan magistrate for allegedly using defamatory comments against him during a television interview.

Earlier, the Andheri metropolitan magistrate’s court rejected an application filed by Akhtar seeking a non-bailable warrant against Ranaut for not appearing before the court.

In July, a magistrate court in Mumbai directed Ranaut to remain present in the next hearing without fail in connection with the defamation case.
