Former Rajya Sabha MP and journalist Chandan Mitra passes away

New Delhi/UNI: Former Rajya Sabha MP and veteran journalist Chandan Mitra passed away late Wednesday night in Delhi, his son Kushan Mitra said.

"Dad passed away late last night. He had been suffering for a while," Kushan Mitra tweeted on Thursday morning.

He is survived by his wife and two sons. He was 66.

He also served the Pioneer as Managing Director till June this year.

In 2018, he left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Mourning his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Shri Chandan Mitra Ji will be remembered for his intellect and insights. He distinguished himself in the world of media as well as politics. Anguished by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."

West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee tweeted, "I am expressing my deepest condolences at the demise of eminent journalist Chandan Mitra... His death is an irreplaceable loss to the world of journalism. I sympathise with Chandan Mitra's relatives and fans."
