After undertrial’s suicide, NHRC seeks report from Maharashtra govt
Mumba/UNI: The National Human Rights Commission on Wednesday directed the Maharashtra goverment to file a report on the steps taken by the state to prevent prisoners suicide.
The report has to be submitted within four weeks, said the NHRC, adding that the step has been taken after an undertrial allegedly ended life in Taloja jail last year.
Also the action was called for as the concerned authorities did not submit requisite reports in the said suicide, NHRC mentioned.
While dealing with the proceedings related to the said case, the Commission has observed that the incident reveals mismanagement in the jail in Maharashtra, it averred.
