New Delhi/IBNS: Former Maharashtra police chief Subodh Kumar Jaiswal has been appointed as the new director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a two-year period.

The government notification came on Tuesday evening following a series of meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice NV Ramana and opposition leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

After the meeting, the CJI, the Prime Minister and Chowdhury zeroed in on three names, former Maharashtra Director General of Police Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) KR Chandra and Home Ministry Special Secretary VSK Kaumudi for the post.

Jaiswal, the seniormost among the three, was chosen for the post. He is a 1985-batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre.
