Will hang anyone obstructing oxygen supply: Delhi High Court

New Delhi/UNI: Hearing hospitals' plea over shortage of medical oxygen for seriously-ill Covid patients, the Delhi High Court on Saturday asserted that if any official obstructs supply of oxygen, then it would "hang" that person.

A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli termed the massive rise in cases as a ‘Tsunami' while hearing submissions by the counsel for Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, Jaipur Golden Hospital, Batra Hospital, and Saroj Super Speciality Hospital.

The Delhi government apprised the court that the capital needs 480 metric tonnes of oxygen and the system will "collapse" otherwise.

The city was getting only 380 MT oxygen per day over the past few days and it received only around 300 MT on Friday, it added.

Seeking response in the matter from the Centre the bench said, "You (Centre) had assured us (on April 21) that 480 MT per day will reach Delhi. Tell us when will it come? The 480 MT per day is still to see the light of the day."

The court also asked the Delhi government officials about the steps they have taken to secure tankers to get the supply of oxygen allocated to it by the Centre.

"We will not spare anyone," the bench said.
