Mumbai/IBNS: A senior cop in Maharashtra has said the death case of car parts trader Mansukh Hiren, who was found dead in Reti Bunder creek in Thane on March 5, has been solved. A week before, Mansukh's explosive-laden SUV was spotted near Reliance chief Mukesh Ambani's home.

Shivdeep Lande, Deputy inspector General (DIG) of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), told news agency ANI that the case has been cracked after the arrest of two people--Naresh Dhare - a bookie - and suspended Mumbai police constable Vinayak Shinde.

He said Shinde was sentenced to life imprisonment in Lakhanbhaiya encounter case and was released on parole in 2020. He had been in touch with Sachin Vaze, who was arrested by NIA in Ambani security threat cases, and assisted him in his work.

The two accused were presented in front of a court on Sunday and have been remanded to ATS custody till March 30, said the report.

Vaze has been sent to NIA custody till March 25 for his alleged role in planting the explosives-laden SUV near Amban residence.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and National Investigation Agaency (NIA) had found a CCTV footage which shows Vaze with Hiran on the day when the Scorpio went missing. They met near the General Post Office for about ten minutes inside a black Mercedes-Benz. This vehicle was one of the many traced to the cop by the investigating officials.

Vaze had borrowed this Scorpio from Hiran for four months and had returned it on February 5.

Reports said Mansukh Hiran's statement was taken by Vaze when he was heading the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) but he did not mention the February 17 meeting with the auto parts trader.

A Hindustan Times report said the trader may have been alive when he was thrown in the water.

The report said quoting a Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) official that the initial reports could not confirm it. In order to ascertain it, Hiran’s diatom bone samples were sent to a forensic science laboratory in Haryana.

Hiran's wife Vimla had told the investigator's that her husband was a good swimmer and could not have died by drowning. She suspected the hand of Sachin Vaze in her husband's death.

Hiran had told the police that he had parked the SUV on the highway in the Vikhroli area of central Mumbai and took a taxi to go to Crawford Market in south Mumbai. Next day he realised that the SUV was stolen.

Media reports said that Hiran had cooperated with police interrogation till he went missing on the night of March 4.
