West Bengal Assembly Polls: Trinamool Congress replaces Habibpur Assy candidate

Kolkata/UNI: Ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday decided to replace Sarala Murmu, its candidate for Habibpur assembly constituency in Malda district, with Pradeep Baskey.

The party has insisted that their decision was due to Murmu’s “ill health”. Pradip Bhasker has been named as the new candidate from the Habibpur seat.

Murmu, who was to contested fom Habibpur on a TMC ticket, was apparently upset that she did not get the seat (Old Malda) she wanted. In case of desertion, Murmu would join a long list of TMC leaders, including the high-profile Suvendu Adhikari, leaving the party.

The TMC replaced Murmu with Pradeep Bakshey as a candidate for the Habibpur seat.

“All India Trinamool Congress would like to inform that the candidate for Malda District’s Habibpur Assembly Constituency (No. 43) Sarala Murmu had to be replaced due to her ill health. Pradeep Baskey will be contesting the upcoming Assembly Elections from this constituency,” a party statement said.

Meanwhile, denied ticket by Mamata Banerjee, TMC MLA Sonali Guha is likely to join BJP today.

It is to be mentioned that TMC has already declared their list of candidates in the run-up to the Bengal polls, which will begin from March 27.

Speaking to the media Ms Guha said, "I have been asked by Mukulda to come to the Hastings office tomorrow at 1 pm and will join the BJP there."
