Guwahati/IBNS: In a major setback to the BJP’s ally party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) just ahead of the assembly election in the state, one sitting MLA has resigned from the party on Saturday night.

Satyabrata Kalita, sitting MLA of AGP from Kamalpur assembly constituency, resigned from the party and gave his resignation letter to the party president.

He is now set to join a new political party Asom Gana Parishad – Pragatisil (AGP-P) which was formed by a section of former leaders of AGP with their anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) stand.

Satyabrata Kalita said that he resigned from the AGP and gave his resignation letter to the party president.

Earlier, Kalita met the Congress leaders at a Guwahati based hotel.
