Bengal cinema halls can operate with 100 pct occupancy: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced that cinema halls in her state would be allowed to operate with 100 per cent occupancy if Covid-19 safety protocols are adhered to.

The Chief Minister made the announcement while inaugurating the 26th Kolkata International Film Festival.

Banerjee said a notification in this matter would be released soon.

Banerjee's decision came on a day when the Tamil Nadu government announced to reserve its earlier order allowing 100 per cent occupancy after Centre's objection to the same.

The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday asked the Tamil Nadu government to scrap its order making complete seating allowance.

In its last order, the Union Home Ministry had allowed 50 per cent occupancy in movie theatres outside containment zones as part of the phased unlock process.

With this, it seems that the West Bengal government will once again be at loggerheads with the Centre ahead of the state assembly polls.
