Kolkata/UNI: All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday paid a visit to Furfura Sharif in Hooghly district.

It is a noted religious shrine for Bengali Muslims.

He assured Abbas Siddique, the Peerzada and secretary of Furfura Sharif, that his party would stand by him in the coming times.

He said his party would stand by whatever decision Abbas Siddique takes.

Owaisi stated that the AIMIM will contest the Bengal Assembly election under the leadership of Abbas Siddiqui.

“We will move forward in Bengal under the leadership of Abbas Siddiqui. We will support whatever decision he takes,” Owaisi mentioned after his meeting with Siddiqui.

The meeting assumed significance ahead of 2021 West Bengal Assembly election.

This is Owaisi's first visit to the state following his announcement to contest elections from Bengal.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) put up a good show during Bihar Assembly election last year and romped homee in five seats in the region bordering Bengal.

The Trinamool leadership, however, hasn't attached much importance to the meeting.

Party Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy said Owasi was well aware that he could not be a factor as Urdu speaking Muslims in the State were not in a sizeable number.

"Muslims in Bengal stand firmly by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, " Roy said.
