India aspiring to be the number one country in the world : Amit Shah

Imphal/UNI: India is aspiring to become the number one nation in the world under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and no part of the nation, especially the north east, will be left behind in any aspect in India's journey to the top spot in the comity of nations, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a public reception at Hapta Kangjeibung there today.

The whole nation witnessed the rise of insurgencies, bandhs, blockades when Congress was ruling in the north eastern states, he said. With BJP forming governments in the region, most of the insurgents laid down their guns and returned to the mainstream, he added. Other groups will also come back to the mainstream, he said.

Problems related to Bru, Reang, Bodo and other communities were settled and most underground outfits have laid down their arms, he pointed out.

The government will seriously consider the demands of the people and organisations of the region, he assured.

He appealed to the Manipur government to affiliate a science college with a forensic institute so that people of the region can undergo courses in forensic science.

Earlier, a historic decision was taken by the central government to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Manipur to protect the indigenous people, he said.

As northeast has been Prime Minister's special focus, he has directed all ministers to visit the region regularly, which expedited the completione of many projects.

Previous governments laid the foundation stones but  the present government was completing the tasks and inaugurating the projects, he further said.

He also inaugurated several projects, including Thoubal Multipurpose Project which was constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 1998.99 Crore, roads from Bishnupur to Tupul and Thoubal to Kasom Khullen road at an estimated cost of Rs. 475.65 crores.

He also launched a state wide eoffice .

Shah laid the foundation stone for Churachandpur Medical College to be built at a cost of Rs 325 crore which was taken up in a tribal dominated district,  IIIT Mayangkhang to be built at a cost of Rs 128, IT-SEZ at Mantripukhri to be built at a cost of Rs 950 crore, State Government Guest House” Shanglen” to be built at a cost of Rs 237.49 crore, State police headquarter building to be built at a cost of Rs 50 crore,  Manipur Bhawan at Dwarka, New Delhi to be built at a cost of Rs 167 crore and Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) under smart city Imphal to be built at a cost of Rs 29.5 crore.

The series of developmental works were undertaken to fulfil the aspirations of the Prime Minister to equally develop the entire country he said.

The PM has visited the region over 40 times which shows the commitment to develop connectivity, infrastructure and ensure peace and development he further said. To improve the region the budget of the North East ministry was increased three fold he further said and 33 percent fund will be used for development of interior areas he said.


Chief Minister N Biren Singh said the people of Manipur will remain indebted to the central government for implementing ILP during the peak of Citizenship Act movement in the country.

He said the Union Home Minister believes in action rather than giving long speeches.

MoS DoNER  Dr Jitendra Singh said the nation was emulating many projects, initiatives taken up in the north eastern states and the best example was the way Covid pandemic was managed. Under the initiative of the DoNER ministry various developmental projects were taken up to improve connectivity and he had the privilege of visiting various places where people had never seen any central minister before.

Manipur government officials presented details of the projects which will be taken up and pointed out that implementation of e office was comparatively better than most states and most files were processed digitally.

Amit Shah, who arrived around noon from Guwahati, is also scheduled to meet representatives of various organisations later today before leaving Imphal.

The public function at Hapta Kangjeibung was organised  following SOPs due to the Covid pandemic.

Special security arrangements were taken up in the state  in view of the visit and security personnel were manning all strategic places.

Movement of vehicles, people were restricted in many places and security personnel  frisked people and vehicles to check any untoward incident.
