Srinagar/UNI: Two militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants on Tuesday surrendered during an encounter which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Kulgam, a police spokesman said this morning.

He said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint CASO at village Tongdounu in Kulgam in the wee hours today.

However, when the security forces launched a House-to-House search operation with the first light this morning, militants hiding there opened fire.

Later, after identifying the holed up militants , their family members were brought at the encounter site who appealed them to surrender.

Security forces also assured militants that they will not be harmed if they surrender. Later, both the LeT local militants surrendered alongwith incriminating materials, including two pistols and ammunition.

About 12 militants of different outfits were allowed to surrender during encounters in the Kashmir valley during the past few months.
