New Delhi: A PLA soldier, who was identified as Corporal Wang Ya Long, was apprehended in the Demchok sector of Eastern Ladakh on Monday after he had strayed across the LAC, the Indian Army said.

The PLA soldier has been provided medical assistance including oxygen, food and warm clothes to protect him from the vagaries of extreme altitude and harsh climatic conditions, the Indian Army said in a statement.

A request has also been received from the PLA about the whereabouts of the missing soldier.

As per established protocols, he will be returned back to Chinese officials at the Chushul – Moldo meeting point after completion of formalities.

The incident happened at a time when the relationship between India and China has touched new low over the border clashes.

India and China have been engaged into border standoff along the LAC in eastern Ladakh since early May.

It has even led to a violent clash between troops of the two countries in the Galwan valley on June 15, wherein 20 Indian soldiers were killed.

The Chinese side also suffered massive casualties but they have yet not disclosed the figure.
