New Delhi/IBNS: The cinelovers of India will again be able to visit the cinema halls to watch movies as the Asian country, which has struggled to cope up with the surge in Covid-19 cases, is reopening the theatre houses on Thursday in the shadow of the virus threat.

The cinema halls have been permitted to open by the government in Unlock 5 with not more than 50 per cent of the total seating capacity besides strict maintenance of social distancing norms.

The unprecedented anti-Covid-19 lockdown, which had commenced in the last week of March, had forced several films including the ones which featured leading Bollywood stars to premiere in various Over-the-top (OTT) platforms.

Though India is adding the maximum number of Covid-19 cases on a daily basis for the last several weeks, the fatalities due to the contagion in the last 24 hours dipped slightly, recording the lowest figure in two months.

680 deaths were reported from across 36 states and union territories in the last one day further increasing the toll to 1,11,266.

The Coronavirus tally has touched 73.7 lakh with 67,708 new infections reported in 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Maharashtra, the western state which is severely battered by the virus, has allowed the resumption of metro services in its capital Mumbai from Thursday.

However, the metro rail is all set to offer its services to common people of India's financial capital from Oct 19.
