Srinagar/UNI: The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) on Thursday booked three drug stores in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar for offering the sale of Pulse Oximeters without Maximum Retail Price (MRP) and other mandatory declarations.

A penal sum of Rs 25000 was slapped on the drug stores and distributors for the lapses, an official spokesman said here on Thursday evening.

He said a team of officials, headed by the Deputy Controller of LMD, conducted inspections of about 30 drug stores in Srinagar city, to ascertain the genuineness of the complaints, which said the drug stores were offering for sale the Pulse Oximeters (imported) without Maximum Retail Price, month and year of import address of Importer and Customer Care details.

During the inspection, it was found from the bills that retail drug stores have bought Oximeters from the distributor within a range of Rs 600 to Rs 1200 and they were found selling them between the range of Rs 1000 to Rs 2000.

Under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, it is the right of the consumer to know about the price of the product and manufacturer details.

The drug stores cannot offer for sale the surgical/medical devices, in contravention of the aforesaid rules.
