NCB arrests Rhea Chakraborty on charges of organising drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput

Mumbai/IBNS: Actress Rhea Chakraborty was on Tuesday arrested in Mumbai by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) after three days of questioning by the agency in connection with the drug-related allegation surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput's death.

The probe agency does not want custody for her as according to the officials, they have enough evidence and information in connection with the case.

Rhea was sent to judicial custody and asked to go to a sessions court for bail.

Rhea, who was living-in with Sushant, has been charged with organizing drugs for the late Bollywood star.

She faces charges that could lead to jail for up to 10 years but there is nothing in the record about her using drugs.

"We have evidence against Rhea, which is why we arrested her. There is no need for custody. We are satisfied with the three-day questioning we had with her. This is because we cross-examined and questioned those who are already under arrest," said Mutha Ashok Jain, an official of the Narcotics Control Bureau told media.

He, however, admitted that no drugs had been found on her.

Soon after Rhea's arrest, her lawyer Satish Maneshinde released a statement to media saying: "Travesty of justice. Three central agencies hounding a single woman just because she was in love with a drug addict who was suffering from mental health issues for several yrs & committed suicide due to consumption of illegally administered medicines, drugs."

Before getting into a police van to be taken for medical examination, dressed in a black tee having "Smash The Patriarchy" message written on it, Rhea waved at media.

Many among the waiting reporters had mobbed her when she arrived for questioning at NCB office for the first time on Sunday.

The 28-year-old, named as a prime accused in the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) probe in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput's death on June 14, had denied using drugs in TV interviews.

However, as per reports, she broke down before the NCB officials when she was confronted with her brother Showik, who was arrested earlier by the agency.

Showik and Sushant’s house manager Samuel Miranda, who were arrested by the NCB under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, have been remanded to NCB till Sept 9.

The NCB had also arrested Dipesh Sawant, the house helper of the late actor, in connection with the case.

NCB is the third central agency to join the probe into the death of Sushant, after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The NCB got into action after the Enforcement Directorate came across chats pertaining to drug consumption, procurement, usage and transportation in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

Sushant was found dead at his own flat in Mumbai's Bandra on Jun 14.
