Tripura 9-month-old baby dies of snakebite in Tripura village in the absence of anti-venom injection
Agartala/UNI: A 9-month-old baby died from the bite of a venomous snake this morning at Champaknagar village of Belonia in South Tripura.
In spite of being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced 'brought dead', while the victim's parents alleged that the baby was alive but eventually died as there was no anti-venom injection available in the hospital.
Police said the snake bit baby Ritwick Bhowmik when he was asleep on his bed in the morning.
As Ritwick screamed out in pain after the snake pierced its deadly fangs, his father Subrata Bhowmik rushed in and saw the venomous snake crawling away fast.
Subrata ran to the nearby Motai primary health centre but the doctor on duty referred him to Belonia Hospital without administering any primary treatment.
In the sub-divisional hospital, he could find a doctor after make a frantic search.
Even though the doctor commenced his treatment, the infant soon succumbed and the doctor certified him as 'brought dead’.
Despite the state being recognized as the home to some of the most poisonous snakes and 70 per cent of the total area under forest, most of the hospitals in Tripura don’t have supply of anti-venom injections.
