Raigad/IBNS: At least 15 people were injured and around 70 were feared trapped under the debris as a multi-storey residential building in Maharashtra's Raigad district collapsed on Monday.

The five-storey building in Raigad, which is a four-hour drive from Mumbai, housed 45 flats.

Three teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been rushed to the accident spot.

"Today at about 6,50 PM, A ground+four floor building collapsed in Kajalpura area of Mahad Tehsil in District Raigad, Maharashtra. About 50 people are feared to be trapped. Three teams of NDRF have moved. Teams have moved with all the necessary equipment, Canine Squad etc," an NDRF official told media.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the NDRF has been asked to provide all assistance in the rescue operations.

"The collapse of a building in Raigad, Maharashtra is very tragic. Have spoken to DG @NDRFHQ to provide all possible assistance, teams are on the way and will be assisting with the rescue operations as soon as possible. Praying for everyone’s safety," He wrote in a tweet.

Footage of the site showed the surrounding area was even covered in a huge dust cloud.

Last month owing to heavy downpour, a multi-storey building collapsed in Mumbai killing nine people and injuring several.
