Yogi Adityanath announces Rs 10 lakh compensation for family of journalist killed in Ghaziabad

Lucknow/UNI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for the family of journalist Vikram Joshi who died on Wednesday after being shot by miscreants near his Ghaziabad home.

Officials here confirmed that taking cognisance of the incident, the CM has announced Rs 10 lakh as compensation and a job to the widow and free education for his children.

The CM has directed stern action against the guilty people. Already nine people have been arrested and a SHO was put under suspension in connection with the crime.

Joshi was shot at by criminals in Ghaziabad on Monday night.

The incident took place days after he complained to the police against a group of men for harassing his niece.

Joshi was admitted to Yashoda Hospital in Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad, where he succumbed to his injuries on early Wednesday morning.

He was travelling on a motorcycle with his two daughters when the gunmen fired at him.

The journalist was rushed to a nearby hospital. The incident was captured on CCTV footage.

Slamming the UP government, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted that they had promised for a 'Ram Rajya', but gave "Goonda Raj".

He also offered his condolences to the bereaved family.

Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati said that the "Jungle raj" prevails in the state.

In a tweet, Mayawati said, "Women are not safe in UP and murders are increasing. There is no rule of law in the state but jungle raj prevails. In UP Crime virus is more than Coronavirus. People of the state are living in fear. Government should look into it."
