West Bengal student gangrape case: Mob goes berserk at Chopra
Chopra/WestBengal/UNI: Irate mob went on a rampage at Sonarpur Gram Panchayat of Chopra town in North Dinajpur district, torching at least three buses and a few police vehicles over the alleged gangrape and murder of a student on Sunday.
The agitators blocked National Highway 31 and even attacked police personnel with bows and arrows at one point.
The violence lasted for several hours.
Police and RAF had to swing into action, used lathis and lobbed tear gas shells to pacify the mob and bring the situation under control.
Though the crowd dispersed initially, they regrouped again later and attacked the police officers.
An investigation was ordered into the girl’s death, police said.
