"I Am Vikas Dubey, Kanpurwala" (Main Vikas Dubey hoon Kanpurwala) shouted Uttar Pradesh gangster Vikas Dubey as he was arrested from a temple today. He was on the run after killing eight cops. Details to follow.

He was arrested after a hunt for nearly a week across states by the UP Police. He was finally nabbed in Ujjain. Some of his aides were killed in encounters.

The video footage of his arrest:

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday had arrested Chaubeypur Station Officer (SO) Vinay Tiwari and Sub Inspector KK Sharma for tipping off gangster Vikas Dubey, who used the information to plan an ambush and kill the eight policemen, who went to arrest him in Bikaru village in Kanpur Dehat, in the early hours of Friday last.

Both Tiwari and Sharma had been suspended soon after the incident, after their involvement was ascertained from their call details and information provided by Dubey's aide Daya Shankar Agnihotri who was arrested last Sunday.Tiwari and Dubey allegedly informed Dubey, who was present in his native village Bikaru, 14 kms from Chaubeypur police station, about the surprise police raid to arrest him.

The notorious gangster, who is wanted in over 60 cases of murder, loot, extortion, had blocked the road to the village with his men using logs, boulders and an earth mover, forcing the police team to leave their vehicles and enter the village on foot. The criminals managed to gun down eight policemen and injure seven.

Following the incident, the higher ups of the police department were quick to realise there had been informers within and swung into action to identify them.

The UP police had come close to nab him at a hotel in Faridabad on Tuesday, but he gave a slip.

The Uttar Pradesh police increased the bounty on the most-wanted criminal Vikas Dubey to Rs 5 lakhs on Wednesday.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra described it as a collective feather in the cap for his officers and men.
