Kolkata/UNI: Hailing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's yesterday's announcement of extending free ration for poor till June 2021, Trinamool leaders today described it as a landmark humanitarian decision.

" Hon'ble CM @MamataOfficial's foresight to tackle the pandemic & exemplary governance is worth emulating. I congratulate her & the people of #Bengal for this historic step to make ration free till June 2021. Now, no one will go hungry during these trying times, " tweeted party MP Abhishek Banerjee.

State Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said, " The announcement to give rations to the people of Bengal till June 2021 is a landmark humanitarian decision. Congratulations from the people of the state to the Chief Minister. "

" While @narendramodi ji constantly throwing challenges at us, @MamataOfficial is showing the way to overcome each and every one of them. Declaring free ration till June 2021 for the people of Bengal is one such move! " tweeted another party MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.

Former Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi said, "@MamataOfficial has been working tirelessly to overcome the twin crises. Now, she has made a historic move by giving free ration till June 2021 to the people of Bengal. She is truly an exemplary leader whom we all can trust! "

Her announcement came within an hour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation in which he announced the extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, the scheme to provide free ration to the poor during the COVID-19 pandemic, till the end of November.

The chief minister said only 60 per cent people in Bengal get central rations and the quality of foodgrains in the state is better than that of the Centre.
