Total lockdown in Guwahati, 'weekend lockdown' in all urban areas

Guwahati/UNI: In view of the spike in number of COVID 19 cases in Assam's main city Guwahati, total lockdown has been declared in entire Kamrup (metro) district, under which Guwahati comes, for 14 days from June 28 midnight.

Making the announcement, state Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said except hospitals, pharmacies and laboratories, all other commercial and trade establishments will remain closed.

Grocery, vegetables and fruits shops, etc. will also be closed for the first seven days, after which the administration will review the situation and decide on relaxations, if any.

Moreover, in all municipal and town committee areas of the state, 'weekend lockdown' will be imposed from tomorrow, till the end of COVID 19 pandemic.

Curfew timing has been extended from 7 PM to 7 AM in the entire state, effective from tonight, the Minister added.
