Jammu and Kashmir: Militant killed by security forces in Pulwama encounter

Srinagar/UNI: Security forces killed a militant in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Tuesday, official sources said.

They said a CASO was launched at village Soymoih, Tral, in Pulwama district by troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police following a tip-off about the presence of militants at 0300 hrs.

However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said adding security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.

A militant was killed in the initial exchange of fire, sources said adding there was no firing for the past four hours. There are two to three militants still in the area, they said adding additional security forces have been rushed from nearby camps to seal all exit points.

Security forces and state police personnel have also been deployed in adjacent areas to prevent any demonstrations. All roads leading to the village have been sealed, they added.
