Nearly 1 lakh people arrive in North East on Shramik Special trains

Guwahati/UNI: Nearly one lakh stranded people of North Eastern states have arrived in different states of the region till yesterday in 63 Shramik Special trains.

About 20 more such Shramik Special trains will be arriving in the coming days to these states, while 22 Shramik Special trains have originated from various NE states under the jurisdiction of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to carry stranded people from these states to their native places, an NFR statement said here today.

While more than 320 trains arrived in Bihar areas under NFR till today, about 10 such trains will be arriving in various stations of North Bengal under NFR by today.

All these Shramik Special trains helped about 5 lakhs stranded people to reach their home state during lock-down period till today.

The top three states from where maximum trains originated are Gujarat, Maharashtra and Punjab, while 80 percent of total Shramik Special trains are running towards few particular states.

IRCTC and Railways have mobilized resources to ensure regular supply of meals and water to the Shramik Special trains and minimize inconvenience to the passengers.

After the Shramik Special trains arrives in the jurisdiction of NFR for onward journey towards various locations in NE states, it is ensured that all the passengers get sufficient food and drinking water for the further journey period, the statement said.

Indian Railways has run more than 3840 Shramik Special trains, carrying over 52 lakh passengers.

Nearly 60 percent of trains originated from Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Punjab and nearly 80 percent trains are mainly going towards various districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Most of the destinations in Uttar Pradesh are around Lucknow - Gorakhpur sector and in Bihar around Patna.
