Ahmedabad/IBNS: In a major development to contain the spread of coronavirus, the administration in Ahmedabad has identified as many as 334 coronavirus "super-spreaders", who are the carriers of the contagion with the potential to spread it to a large number of people, said reports.

They could be people like vegetable sellers, petrol pump operators, fruit sellers, grocery shop owners, garbage collectors who are vulnerable to get infected and can spread the infection to others by the virtue of their job.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation started to identify and test such people from April 20, and so far 334 suspects have tested positive out of 3,817 samples collected, said the reports.

Following this process of detecting coronavirus cases, the city administration has found grocery shop owners, fruit vendors and other people like them infected, after which their family members, fellow vendors and customers who came in contact with them in the last 15 days were quarantined, and a number of people among them were found infected.

The Ahmedabad administration now plans to test all high-risk potential super-spreaders in the city, precisely 14,000 of them.

After the administration had identified the existence of high-risk super-spreaders in the city, orders were given to keep shops of groceries and vegetables closed till May 15, the reports added.
