New Delhi/ IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintained silence in Saturday's video conference meet with Chief Ministers over the demands of economic package to cope with financial distress amid coronavirus lockdown, Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said, according to media reports.

Addressing a press conference through a video link, Narayansamy said most of the chief ministers raised the issue of migrant labourers and poor people losing livelihood and asked the Centre to help them.

Asked about the Prime Minister's response on the economic package, the Congress leader said the PM does not reply to the MPs in parliament and in the same manner did not respond to the Chief Ministers.

The Puducherry Chief Minister also mentioned that his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee complained about the Governors and the Lieutenant Governors interfering in the functioning of the state governments and alleged that they were playing politics even as the states grappled with the crisis.

She, specifically, asked the Prime Minister to control them as the LGs and the Governors should not interfere in the functioning of the elected governments of the states.

Narayansamy said the PM agreed with the Chief Ministers call for the extension of lockdown amid rising cases of coronavirus in the country.
