New Delhi/IBNS: At a time when New Delhi is witnessing violent clashes over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, visiting US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he discussed the issue of religious freedom with Indian PM Narendra Modi during their meeting.

He said Modi informed him that he wants people of India to have religious freedom.

"We did talk about religious freedom. The PM said he wants people to have religious freedom. They have worked really hard on it," he told reporters.

Trump said he did not discuss the issue of violence in the national capital.

"I heard about the individual attacks but I did not discuss it. It is up to India," he said.

The violent clashes in parts of Delhi, which started since Sunday, over the new citizenship law have claimed nine lives.

Trump once again offered to mediate between India and Pakistan on the issue of Kashmir.

"We talked a lot about it at length today. No question it is a problem. They are working on it. I said I will do whatever I can do to help because my relationship with both gentlemen is so good," he said.

Trump said Narendra Modi is a 'tough man' and he will be able to deal with the issue of terrorism.

"Anything we can do to mediate, I will do it. We discussed terrorism at great length. PM Modi is a very calm man but he is a very tough man. He will take care of terrorism," he said.

As the US President is gearing up to complete his visit to India, Donald Trump on Tuesday said he had a 'great time' during his stay in the country.

He described India as a 'tremendous country'.

"We had a great time. We had great meetings... This is a tremendous country," Trump said while addressing a press conference here.

"I think they like us more than they ever liked us," he said.

Trump said he shares a 'great relationship' with Indian PM Narendra Modi.

"I admire your country and respect your PM tremendously," he said.

Speaking on the US peace deal with Taliban, Trump said: "Yes, I spoke to PM Modi on it. I think India would like to see it happen. We are pretty close. Everybody is happy about it."

Trump arrived in India on Monday for his two-day visit to the south Asian nation.

He attended the Namaste Trump event in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat which was attended by over one lakh people.

Trump also visited Taj Mahal and Sabarmati Ashram during his trip to India.

This was his first visit to India since being elected as the President of the USA.
