Arvind Kejriwal set to become CM again as AAP sweeps Delhi, BJP emerges distant second

New Delhi/IBNS: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal is set to become the Delhi Chief Minister for the third consecutive term as his party on Tuesday swept the assembly polls in the national capital.

As per the latest report from the Election Commission (EC), the AAP is leading in 63 of 70 seats where elections were held on last Sunday.

Though it had given a scare to the AAP by improving its tally after 9 am in the morning, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is presently is leading in just seven seats.

The worst news in the day came for the Congress as the grand old party, which had ruled Delhi for years, has drawn a blank replicating its terrible performance in the national capital five years ago.

While Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is leading in New Delhi constituency by over 14,000 votes, his deputy and AAP candidate from Patparganj, Manish Sisodia, is leading by 656 votes.

Sisodia's colleague Atishi, who had failed to defeat former cricketer Gautam Gambhir in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, is leading in Kalkaji by 5,077 votes.

BJP's controversial candidate from Model Town, Kapil Mishra, who was earlier banned from campaigning for 96 hours by the Election Commission (EC) for comparing the polls with a fight between India and Pakistan, is trailing. AAP's Akhilesh Pati Tripathi is ahead by 10,550 votes.

AAP's controversial candidate from Malviya Nagar, Somnath Bharti, is leading by over 7,498 votes. In Okhla, AAP candidate Amanatullah Khan is ahead of BJP's Braham Singh by 36,970 votes.

Addressing the party workers, AAP leader Sanjay Singh took a dig at BJP's Model Town candidate Kapil Mishra and said, "Hindustan has won in the battle between India and Pakistan."

"People have voted in favour of work and development," he added.

BJP MP Gambhir said, "We failed to convince people of Delhi. Hope AAP and Arvind Kejriwal will work for people."

Calling out the top leadership of her party, Delhi Mahila Congress Sharmistha Mukherjee said, "We r again decimated in Delhi.Enuf of introspection, time 4 action now. Inordinate delay in decision making at the top, lack of strategy & unity at state level, demotivated workers, no grassroots connect-all r factors.Being part of d system, I too take my share of responsibility."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated her Delhi counterpart Kejriwal in a tweet saying, "Congratulations @ArvindKejriwal as #DelhiResults show @AamAadmiParty all set to win #DelhiElection2020 with a thumping majority yet again. Leaders playing on faith through hate speech & divisive politics should take a cue, as only those who deliver on their promises are rewarded."
