BJP releases video showing Sonia Gandhi getting enumerated in 2011 under NPR

New Delhi/UNI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday released a video footage showing Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi enumerating for the population census in 2011 under the National Population Register (NPR) norms.

"Then Congress President Sonia Gandhi enumerating for the population census in 2011, when it was for the first time also used to build the National Population Register (NPR)," tweeted BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya along with the video footage.

"Now the same Congress is using it as an excuse to fan riots, destroy public property and create mayhem...," wrote Malviya.

The video also claims that the then President Pratibha Patil is also getting enumerated under the programme.

The Congress has alleged that the Modi government has been trying to link the National Population Register (NPR) with the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and termed it draconian and against the secular credentials of the Constitution.

Congress leader Ajay Maken has said that the Union Home Ministry, in its annual report, has stated that the NPR is the first step to NRC.

In another missive, Malviya slammed those who rendered support to rioteers during the protest in various cities against Citizenship Amendment Act.

"From Mangalore to Aligarh Muslim University, several video evidences conclusively prove that these were not spontaneous expressions of dissent but well planned conspiracy to create chaos. Criminal elements were funded to riot and destroy public property. Will be held to account...," Malviya wrote in the micro blogging site.
