Narendra Modi pays tribute to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 95th birth anniversary

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to his late predecessor Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the latter's 95th birth anniversary on Wednesday.

Modi placed flowers at Atal Samadhi Sthal in central Delhi to pay homage to the former Prime Minister.

The present Prime Minister, who was very close to Vajpayee, also tweeted a video where he spoke about his predecessor.

Along with Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) working president Jagat Prakash Nadda also paid homage to Vajpayee at Atal Samadhi Sthal.

Vajpayee, whose first term as the Prime Minister lasted only 13 days in 1996, returned to the top position in 1998 to lead the nation till 2004.

A bachelor all his life, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, in 2015.

Vajpayee was elected to the Lok Sabha (lower house) ten times and twice to the Rajya Sabha (upper house).

He represented the Lucknow parliamentary seat in Uttar Pradesh until 2009 when he retired from active politics.
