New Delhi/UNI: Denying any role in today's protest, Jamia Millia Islamia students's body stated that no student from their varsity participated in the agitation against Citizenship Amendment Bill, passed by Parliament earlier this week, which aimed to provide Indian citizenship to Hindu immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

"No Jamia student is involved in the violence happening on the streets of Delhi. These are fringe inciting violence in the garb of Jamia students," Jamia Students Union and Administration said.

"Also, Metro has shut entry and exit at 5 stations--- Sukhdev Vihar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar and Jasola Vihar, Shaheen Bagh. Trains will not be halting at these stations," according to reports.

Protesters shouting slogans 'Save Democracy, Save Constitution' clashed with cops in South Delhi's Friends Colony.

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "No one shud indulge in violence. Any kind of violence is unacceptable. Protests shud remain peaceful. The protest took place at the Kalindi Kunj Road, which is near Jamia University."

Earlier in the day, traffic police has closed vehicular movement from Okhla Underpass to Sarita Vihar due to the demonstration.

It was also reported that the protesters also attacked 4 fire engines in which one fireman was injured.

Protests also led to blocked tracts of the Delhi-Mathura Road, which is opposite the colony, while traffic from Badarpur and Ashram Chowk has been diverted.

The agitating students said that the government is bringing such laws to target Muslims. The government wants to make Muslims second class citizens.

Although the Jamia Millia Islamia has declared winter vacation, but today students along with locals are protesting on the streets.
