Guwahati/IBNS: A day after the BJP-led Union Cabinet cleared the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill for passing it in the parliament, various organisations have intensified their protests against the bill and termed it as an unconstitutional, anti-Assam Accord bill.

On Thursday, thousands of members, supporters of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) – an influenced farmers’ organization of Assam staged a massive protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Guwahati.

The protesters shouted slogans against both the Centre and the state government and demanded the withdrawal of the bill.

Assam peasant leader and advisor of the farmers’ organisation Akhil Gogoi said that the people of Assam and the North Eastern region will fight against the BJP by tooth and nail.

“Assam rejects the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and we never accept this bill. If the bill is granted then all demographic pattern of Assam will be changed. If the bill is granted then the Constitution will be nullified. It is an unconstitutional bill,” Akhil Gogoi said.

He further said that, if this bill is passed then the people of the North East will go against the BJP and the BJP-RSS will be uprooted from the region.

On the other hand, the opposition Congress MLAs also staged protest against the bill inside the Assam assembly campus during the ongoing winter session.

The Congress MLAs led by the leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia shouted slogans against the bill and the BJP-led government and demanded to scrap of the same.
