Odisha: Woman forced to consume poison by in laws for protesting triple talaq

Balasore, Nov 1 (UNI) A woman was forced to consume poison by her in laws when she protested triple talaq pronounced by her husband over phone.

The victim, Khusboo is undergoing treatment in the District Headquarter hospital here since yesterday.

The mother of the victim had lodged an FIR with Kamarda police. All the accused persons, however, are absconding after the incident.

Kamarda police station IIC Paskal Ekka said basing on FIR lodged by the mother of the victim a case has been registered under various sections including Muslim women (Protection of rights on marriage) act, attempt to murder and dowry prohibition act.

According to reports, daughter of Ayub Khan and Phul Biwi, Khusboo was married to Sk Rehamat, son of Sk Sola of village Aruanbruti about two and half years ago.

The couple out of their wedlock have a daughter of one and half year old.

According to victim’s family, their daughter was subjected mental as well as physical torture by her husband, in-laws and other family members to bring more dowry.

Rehamat, who is eking out living outside the state about a week ago allegedly spelt triple talaq to Khusboo over phone over some family disturbances.

The parents of victim lady approached the village community and they were asked to wait till Rehamat arrives.

Rehamat on his return to home allegedly asked his wife to leave home and when she protested the in laws family forced here to consume pesticide.

Balasore Sub divisional police officer, Jaleswar, Sudarshan Dash when contacted today said the case is under investigation and as per merits of the case action would be taken.
