New Delhi/IBNS: Kollywood is overwhelmed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Tamil translation of the poem he wrote a day after visiting the windswept ancient monuments at Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu with Chinese President Xi Jingping on Oct 12 last.

The Prime Minister had taken the Chinese President for a tour of the Shore Temple overlooking the Bay of Bengal, during the latter’s two-day informal visit to India.

After Jingping ‘s departure, Modi tweeted a rather long poem in Hindi inspired by the picturesque seaside ruins.

“Yesterday, while walking on the beach of Mahabalipuram, I was lost in a conversation with the sea. This conversation has cropped up from the universe of my thoughts. I am sharing it with you after translating it into words,” the Prime Minister tweeted in Hindi.

A week later, Modi has tweeted its Tamil version, which is also the oldest language of the world.

"Here is a Tamil translation of the poem I wrote while I was at the picturesque shores of Mamallapuram a few days ago," Modi tweeted.

The gesture drew a lot of appreciation from the southern film industry.

"Saluting nature is saluting God. Bcoz nature is the Almighty! Great! Hon Narendra Modi sir! Thank you on behalf our nation, for your lovable poem on mahab ocean!" tweeted Tamil actor Vivekh, who is a Pdmashree Padmashree awardee and has acted in over 500 films.

To which the Prime Minister replied, "Thank you Vivek! Respect for nature is a key part of our ethos. Nature manifests divinity and greatness. The scenic shores of Mamallapuram and the morning calm provided perfect moments to express some of my thoughts."

Film producer and distributor and founder of film institute BOFTA , G Dhananjay tweeted, "Amazing love of our Hon. Narendra Modi ji for Tamil. We all must celebrate his love and support to our language. Thank you sir."

Replying to him, Modi tweeted: "Glad to be expressing myself in the world's oldest language, which has nurtured a vibrant culture. The Tamil language is beautiful, the Tamil people are exceptional."
