Hearing of fresh application of Rajeev Kumar bail application expected today as CBI seeks non-bailable warrant

Kolkata, Sep 17 (UNI) The CBI today sought non-bailable warrant (NBW) against former Kolkata top cop Rajeev Kumar in connection with Saradha Chit Fund scam even as the Barrackpore Sessions Judge Court will hear the anticipatory bail application of Rajeev Kumar moved by his advocates after 1400 hours.

Rajeev Kumar's advocates moved an application for anticipatory bail for the ADG CID in the Barrackpore Sessions Judge Court, minutes after a trial court rejected such bail prayer, saying it has no jurisdiction.

Mr Justice Sanjeev Taluka told Kumar's advocates that he has no jurisdiction of the case because it is a trial court for MPs and MLAs and advised them to move the district sessions court.

The CBI's counsels also equipped themselves with case diary to move for issuance of a warrant of arrest of the former Kolkata Police Commissioner for not cooperating with the central investigating agency in the Sarada scam despite Calcutta high court order on Friday.

Meanwhile, the CBI in letters wanted to know the whereabouts of the hiding cop from state authorities, including the DGP, but they did not get any clue as yet, said the sources.

They said they got only the duration of Rajeev Kumar's leave for 17 days from September 9.

But whenever a senior IPS official goes on leave, he or she has to furnish details of his stay and contact number during the leave.

Desperately looking for Rajeev Kumar in the Saradha chit fund scam for the past four days, the CBI on Monday delivered two more letters addressing the state chief secretary and home secretary, seeking the whereabouts of AGD CID if he was on leave.

Armed with Calcutta High Court's Friday's order to question the former Kolkata Police Commissioner after vacating its no arrest order, the CBI immediately summoned the ADG CID to appear on Saturday morning before the investigating officers at the CGO Complex.

But the ADG CID remained elusive and in an email he sought time up to September 25 citing his wife's illness.

But the CBI wanted his presence for the investigation, and this two letters addressed to the DIG were delivered on Sunday at Nabanna, the state secretariat.

Since Sunday was a holiday, the letters addressed to the chief secretary and the home secretary were delivered yesterday.

Two CBI officials arrived at Nabanna and delivered the letters.

The CBI sources said if the ADG CID was on leave, he must have given his address of leave and his phone number for contact to the higher authorities.
