Kolkata, July 21 (IBNS): Bengali actress Rimjim Mitra joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday.

Rimjhim has worked in several Tollywood movies and TV serials in her acting career.

"I have joined the BJP on my own will," she told media.

She joined the BJP in the presence of BJP state chief Dilip Ghosh.

Rimjhim joined the party on the day when West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee addressed her annual martyrdom observance programme 'Shahid Dibas'.

Addressing a large gathering of people from the stage of Martyrs' Day at Kolkata's downtown Esplanade area, which is observed by the Trinamool Congress to commemorate those killed on this day 26 years ago in police firing in the city during an agitation, Banerjee alleged that the BJP has started violence by just winning a few seats in Bengal.

Last week, several Tollywood actors had joined the BJP.

The actors who joined the BJP are Rishi Kaushik, Parno Mitra, Rupa Bhattacharya, Anindya Banerjee, Sourav Chakraborty, Deb Ranjan Nag, Rupanjana Mitra, Kanchana Moitra, Biswajit Ganguly, Moumita Gupta and Arindam Halder (Lama).

All the actors joined the BJP formally at the party headquarters in New Delhi in presence of BJP leaders Sambit Patra, Dilip Ghosh, Mukul Roy, Swapan Dasgupta and Subhas Sarkar.
