Maharashtra: Body of couple found in Thane

Thane, Jul 19 (UNI) The bodies of a boy and a girl, aged around 20, have been found in a lodge in the city of Kalyan, police said here on Saturday.

According to Senior PI PR Londhe of MFC police station, while the body of the boy was found hanging with the ceiling of the room on Friday, the girl was found lying on the bed.


The girl had been strangulated to death and gagged with a pillow by the boy, who later hanged himself to death, Mr Londhe said, adding that they got the message at around 2100 hrs and rushed to the lodge.


The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem to the local government hospital, said the senior PI.


Preliminary investigations revealed that it might be a case of an affair between the two, who had eloped from their houses, said the police officer.


They were identified as Arun Gupta, hailing from Azamagarh and Pratibha Prasad, belonging to Ghatkopar in Uttar Pradesh.


He said the couple checked into the lodge, situated near the railway station, at around 1330 hrs and the incident had happened at around 2100 hrs.


The police officer said that PFC police have registered a case of murder under 302 of the IPC and also suicide under Section 309 of the IPC in the case.


Further investigations into the case regarding the details of the families were being carried out by the local police, he added.
