Three held for attack on Hajj pilgrims in Assam

Guwhaati, June 28 (IBNS): Police arrested three persons who had attacked three Hajj pilgrims in Assam’s Cachar district on Friday.

According to the reports, three elderly persons named Jamir Uddin Laskar, Najir Ahmed Laskar and Abdul Khaleque Choudhury were attacked by a group of people at central road, Silchar, on Thursday when the pilgrims were on their way to Bhagabazar from Silchar.

The group had stopped the Hajj pilgrims and attacked them. They also took away their skull caps.

Following the incident, a large number of Muslims surrounded the Silchar police station and lodged an FIR. They demanded that the accused be arrested immediately.

“When we returned after completing the process of Hajj, some miscreants had stopped us at Bhawal point and took our skull-caps forcibly and threw them away. They had attacked us and also threatened us to leave the area,” Jamir Uddin Laskar, a victim, said.

On Friday, police arrested three persons in connection with the incident and they were identified as Sabyasathi Chakraborty, Bappa Das and Joydeep Paul.

Police have registered a case (2167/2019) at Silchar police station and produced them before a local court.
