Deplorable: Gambhir reacts to Gurugram incident where Muslim youth beaten up for wearing skull cap

Gurugram/New Delhi, May 27 (IBNS): Reacting to the incident where a Muslim youth was allegedly beaten up for wearing skull cap in Gurugram, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Gautam Gambhir has termed it as "deplorable".

Gambhir, the cricketer-turned politician, tweeted, ""In Gurugram Muslim man told to remove skullcap, chant Jai Shri Ram”. It is deplorable. Exemplary action needed by Gurugram authorities. We are a secular nation where @Javedakhtarjadu writes “ओ पालन हारे, निर्गुण और न्यारे” & @RakeyshOmMehra gave us d song “अर्ज़ियाँ” in Delhi 6."

Four men on Sunday allegedly beaten up 25-year old Mohamad Barker Alam for wearing skull cap.

Alam said in a First Information Report (FIR) that his cap was removed and was also slapped. The victim said he was forced to chant "Bharat Mata Ki Jai".

Though he had chanted "Bharat Mata Ki Jai', he refused to budge when the assailants had asked him to chant "Jai Shri Ram".

He was returning home after offering Namaz when the incident had occurred. Alam said people from his community came to his rescue when he had cried for help. The assailants had fled by then.
