New Delhi, May 24 (IBNS): The 'Bihari Babu' of Indian cinema, Shatrughan Sinha, who shifted side just before the Lok Sabha polls, was rejected by the people of his own state this time as Ravi Shankar Prasad of the Bharatiya Janata Party defeated him to make his way to the Parliament.

The Union Minister defeated his former party colleague by a margin of 2,78,198 ballots.

Prasad won 5,95,490 votes while Shatrughan Sinha, who joined the Congress this year, managed only 3,17,292 votes.

In a way, Shatrughan Sinha was defeated by a Lok Sabha debutant as Prasad fought the contest of the Lower House of the Parliament for the first time.

Prasad was a Rajya Sabha member for the past four terms.

Interestingly, Sinha was holding the Patna Sahib seat for the past two terms in a BJP ticket.

In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Sinha, who was known for his action moves in movies and for delivering remarkable dialogues like 'Khamosh', had defeated Congress's Kunal Singh in the by more than 2 lakh votes.

Interestingly, his wife Poonam Sinha fought from Lucknow with a Samajwadi party ticket but was defeated by BJP's Rajnath Singh.

Sonakshi, their daughter and a well known Bollywood actress, had urged people to vote for her parents.

She had even justified her father's decision to join the Congress and had told the media, “I think he should have done that long ago. He hadn’t been getting the respect he deserved.”
