Tripura: Police arrest a youth on charge of killing his friend

Sonamura (Tripura) May 19 (UNI): Police arrested a person this morning after locals assaulted him on the charge of killing his friend ,last night in Shibnagar village under Melaghar police station of Sepahijala district.

The body was sent to hospital for post mortem and forensic experts were called for investigation.


The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) ,Sonamura, Souvik Dey said that police recovered the body from pool of blood in front of a Kali temple early in the morning. The head was hit badly by sticks and bricks. The deceased was identified as Shankar Ghosh (28), a mason who resided in the village.


The villagers detained one of his friends and neighbour Pranajit Das (35) out of suspicion after blood stains were found on his body and police rescued him from the violent mob and arrested him allegedly for his involvement in the murder.


The accused, also a mason, had worked together for past few years, Dey said adding, “The reason of murder is not known but police has launched investigation and interrogating the accused.”


According to report, Shankar and Pranajit were found drunk together till late night yesterday. After that Shankar did not return home. Early morning the morning walkers saw him lying in a pool of blood in front of the temple and reported to police.


The locals stated that both them had been active CPI(M) workers and later changed to BJP.
