Amethi: Smriti Irani accuses Rahul Gandhi of 'ensuring booth capturing'

Amethi, May 6 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Amethi candidate in Uttar Pradesh, Smriti Irani, has accused her opponent and Congress president Rahul Gandhi of "ensuring booth capturing".

Irani tweeted a video where an old woman is heard saying she was forced to cast her vote in favour of a particular party instead of the BJP. Irani tagged the video to Election Commission on Twitter and urged to be alert.

Despite a defeat in the last General Elections, BJP has fielded Irani against Gandhi, who is a three-time MP from Amethi, a Congress bastion.

The grand alliance formed by the Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) did not field any candidate in Amethi.

BSP supremo Mayawati also urged all voters to cast their votes in favour of the Congress in Amethi.

The grand alliance has also not fielded its candidate in another Congress bastion Rae Bareli, from where United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi is contesting.
